Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers about pest control in the Yuba-Sutter area — service areas, pricing, what to expect on the first visit, and how we handle the local pest patterns.

1. When is termite swarm season in the Yuba City area?

Subterranean termite swarms here run mid-March through mid-May, peaking on the first warm afternoon after a rain. You’ll see the winged alates lift off from cracks in the foundation or stumps in the yard, usually between 11am and 3pm. If you find a pile of discarded wings on a windowsill, the swarm already happened — start looking for mud tubes against the slab.

2. How do rice fields affect mosquito season in the Central Valley?

Yuba and Sutter counties grow about a quarter-million acres of rice, and a flooded paddy is the most efficient mosquito factory the valley produces. Peak local pressure starts the second week of May (right after flood-up) and runs through harvest in late September. Sutter-Yuba Mosquito Control treats the fields themselves; we handle the half-mile around your house — standing water in flowerpots, rain gutters, kids’ toys, the dog dish you forgot under the deck.

3. What’s the difference between subterranean and drywood termite treatment?

Subterranean termites live in the soil and come up through the slab — treatment is a chemical barrier around the perimeter, or a baiting system in the yard. Drywood termites live inside the wood itself with no ground contact — treatment is spot injection or, for a whole-structure infestation, fumigation. Most Yuba City homes have subterraneans (they love clay soil and irrigation). Drywoods show up more in older redwood-frame houses near the river.

4. Do you serve my town in the Yuba-Sutter area?

Yes, if you’re in Yuba City, Marysville, Olivehurst, Live Oak, Wheatland, Loma Rica, Linda, Sutter, Gridley, Plumas Lake, Colusa, or Meridian — plus the unincorporated parts of Yuba County and Sutter County. If you’re not sure, call (530) 923-0071 and we’ll tell you straight.

5. What does pest service cost?

Most folks are on our bimonthly plan — that runs $75 a visit, six visits a year, no startup fee. If you’d rather we come every month, that’s $55 a visit with a one-time $120 startup the first time out. Both plans cover the same scope: exterior perimeter, attic and crawlspace when you need it, follow-up callbacks free in between. The bimonthly works for most Yuba City homes; we steer people to monthly when there’s heavy pressure — usually older houses near the river, or a property with chickens, woodpiles, or open compost.

6. What should I expect at the first visit?

Anywhere from forty-five minutes to a couple of hours, depending on the property and what we find. Most of the work is outside — perimeter, foundation, eaves, the spots wasps and ants come in. Interior gets touched at the entry points: under-sink plumbing, garage walls, dryer vents. We only go up into the attic if there’s reason to — scratching at night, droppings, signs pointing up there. You don’t need to leave the house; treated areas are dry within an hour.

7. Are your treatments safe for kids and pets?

We use professional products applied where they’re needed — into cracks, corners, and entry points, not broadcast across floors where kids and pets walk. For routine service, treated areas are safe to use again once they’re dry, usually within an hour. If a particular job needs longer clearance time, we’ll tell you up front before we start.

8. How do I know if I have rodents in my attic?

The first signal is scratching at 3am — rats are nocturnal, the noise is over your bedroom or down the wall. Daytime checks: look for droppings on the insulation, dark grease smears along the rafters, gnawed corners on cardboard boxes. The smell shows up later. Get someone up there with a flashlight before you guess — half the rats we get called for turn out to be roof rats coming and going through a single dime-sized gap in the soffit.
