Yuba City Bug Barometer: June 2026 Pest Activity Report
Welcome to Green Bones Pest Control’s monthly Bug Barometer — your local guide to what’s crawling, flying, and nesting around Yuba City and the greater Sacramento Valley right now. June is one of the busiest months we see all year, and 2026 is shaping up to be no exception. After a wet spring followed by early summer heat, pest populations are surging across Yuba County. Here’s the breakdown of what’s active, how worried you should be, and what you can do about it.
June 2026 Pest Activity Levels
🐜 Ants — Activity Level: HIGH
No surprise here — ants are absolutely everywhere in June. As soil temperatures climb and our typical Sacramento Valley heat kicks in, ant colonies that spent the spring multiplying are now sending foragers indoors in search of water and food. Argentine ants are the biggest offenders in Yuba City right now, often forming those long trailing lines into kitchens and bathrooms.
- Keep countertops wiped down and food stored in sealed containers
- Fix any leaky faucets or pipes — ants are often after moisture as much as food
- Seal cracks around windows, doors, and your home’s foundation
- Move firewood and yard debris away from the house
🕷️ Spiders — Activity Level: MEDIUM
Spider activity picks up noticeably in June as their insect prey becomes more abundant. We’re seeing increased black widow activity in garages, sheds, and woodpiles throughout the Yuba City area — which is always worth taking seriously. Garden spiders and wolf spiders are also more visible this time of year.
- Shake out shoes, gloves, and clothing left in garages or sheds before wearing
- Declutter storage areas where spiders love to hide
- Install yellow outdoor bulbs — they attract fewer insects, which means fewer spiders hunting near your doors
- Vacuum up webs regularly to discourage nesting
🦟 Mosquitoes — Activity Level: HIGH
Thanks to above-average spring rainfall, standing water is still lingering in low-lying areas around Yuba County — and mosquitoes are loving it. Sutter County Vector Control has already flagged elevated mosquito populations near the Feather River corridor. June evenings outdoors are genuinely uncomfortable right now if you’re not protected.
- Dump any standing water in pots, buckets, bird baths, and gutters at least once a week
- Use EPA-registered insect repellent when spending time outside at dawn and dusk
- Make sure window and door screens are intact and properly fitted
- Consider a yard mosquito treatment if you entertain outdoors — ask us about our seasonal programs
🐭 Rodents — Activity Level: MEDIUM
Roof rats and house mice stay active year-round here in Northern California, but June brings a slight uptick as outdoor food sources peak and young rodents from spring litters start dispersing. We’ve been getting calls from homeowners in neighborhoods near agricultural areas around Yuba City noticing new activity in attics and garages.
- Inspect your roofline and eaves for gaps — roof rats are excellent climbers
- Keep garage doors closed when not in use
- Store pet food and birdseed in hard-sided, sealed containers
- Trim tree branches away from your roofline to eliminate easy access points
🐝 Wasps — Activity Level: HIGH
June is prime time for yellow jackets and paper wasps in the Sacramento Valley. Colonies that started small in spring are now growing fast, and new nests are appearing under eaves, in wall voids, and in the ground. We’ve seen a significant jump in wasp calls this month — don’t ignore a nest near your entry points.
- Inspect your roofline, eaves, and fence posts regularly for early-stage nests
- Keep outdoor trash cans tightly sealed — yellow jackets are attracted to food waste
- Never try to remove an active nest yourself; wasp stings can be dangerous
- Call us early — small nests are much easier and cheaper to treat
🪲 Termites — Activity Level: MEDIUM
Subterranean termite swarm season is winding down from its spring peak, but activity is still very much ongoing beneath the surface. Warm soil temperatures throughout Yuba County keep termite colonies working aggressively through June. If you noticed swarmers earlier this spring and haven’t had an inspection, now is the time.
- Fix any moisture issues around your foundation — termites are drawn to damp wood
- Keep mulch pulled back at least 6 inches from your home’s exterior
- Schedule an annual termite inspection if you haven’t had one recently
- Look for mud tubes along your foundation walls — a key warning sign
